Family:Whitney, John (1769-1802)
John6 Whitney (Nathan5, David4, Benjamin3, John2, John1), son of Nathan5 and Tabitha (Merriam) Whitney, was born 13 Oct 1769, Westminster, MA,[1] and died 25 Jun 1802, Westminster, MA.[2]
He married, 16 Jan 1794, Westminster, MA, Elizabeth Stearns.[3] She was born 1 Aug 1770, and died 30 Oct 1838. She married secondly, 16 Jun 1803, Westminster, MA, James Walker,[4] who d. s. p. the next year. She married thirdly, Luke Warren, and had Mary Warren and Aaron Warren.
John Whitney was born in Waltham, MA, and moved with his parents when young to Westminster. He followed agricultural pursuits, was a stanch Christian, good citizen, strong temperance advocate and bitterly opposed to slavery. He was never in public life, but made many friends by his integrity and Christian virtues. He resided Westminster, MA.

Betsey Whitney, b. 3 May 1799; m. 30 Apr 1829, Westminster, MA, Thomas Merriam,[8] b. 23 Jul 1801; d. 24 Sep 1877; resided Westminster. - Ch.: Mary E., b. 4 Jun 1830; Sarah M., b. 7 Jun 1835; John F., b. 23 Aug 1838; all resided Westminster. The mother d. 15 Jul 1888.
iv. Linda Whitney, b. 3 Mar 1802; d. 23 Mar 1847; m. (int. 8 Sep 1823, Westminster, MA[9]) 20 Nov 1823, Hubbardston, MA, Joseph Raymond "of Westminster",[10] b. 15 Mar 1796. - Ch.: Alfred Whitney, b. 22 Sept 1824; resided Jewett, NM; Melinda Elizabeth, b. 12 Nov 1826; unmarried; Joseph Downe, b. 17 Feb 1828; resided Pleasant St., Worcester, MA; Reuben Stearns, b. 13 May 1830; m. and d. leaving Edward Lincoln and William Holbook; his widow m. William Dearing, resided Shellville, CA; Susan Wood, b. 28 Oct 1831; m. 18 Oct 1854, Hubbardston, MA, Heman Lincoln Chase, of Boston; resided 126 Harvard St., Brookline, MA. He was son of Rev. Irah Chase, D. D., and Harriet Savage Chase, and was b. 22 Sep 1829, Newton, MA, and d. 11 Feb 1884, Brookline. Her husband and her deceased son, Henry, were Baptists and all her other children the same. Harriet Savage Chase m. 15 Jul 1886, Herbert Eveleth Greene. He graduated from Harvard college and has the degree of Ph. D. Dr. Greene is a professor in Wells College, Aurora, New York. They have one son, born 14 Jun 1890. Prof. Greene is an orthodox Congregationalist; the child's name is William Chase Greene. Heman Lincoln Chase, Jr., graduated from Harvard, receiving the degree of A. M., in 1882, and afterward the degree of Dr. of Medicine from the Harvard Medical School, then studied abroad, and is now practicing in Brookline, unmarried, and a Republican. Henry Ernest Chase graduated in Harvard in 1883 with the degree of A. M. Susan Raymond Chase m. 12 Jun 1889, Frank Leonard Creesy. Mr. Creesy graduated from Harvard College in the class of 1882 and afterward from the Harvard Law School, practicing law in Boston and living in Brookline. Republican. They have one child, Madeline Creesy, b. 26 Mar 1891. Edith Chase is a student at Smith College, Northampton, MA; Henry Chase, b. 12 Jul 1840; resided Council Bluffs, IA.
