Jonathan6 Whitney (Caleb5, Jonathan4, Richard3, Richard2, John1), son of Caleb5 and Annes (Church) Whitney,[1] was born 2 Sep 1768, Shutesbury, MA,[2] baptized 3 Nov 1769, Harvard, MA,[3] and died 18 Feb 1847, Sterling, MA.

Marriage intentions were published 24 Aug 1793, Gardner, MA, for him "of Sterling" and Lucy Wheeler.[4] He "of Sterling" married, 7 Nov 1793, Westminster, MA, Lucy Wheeler, "of Gardner",[5] daughter of Josiah and Lucy (Graves) Wheeler. She was born 31 Jun 1771, Gardner, MA, and died 2 Jan 1856, Sterling, MA, aged 84 years 7 months, of paralysis.[6]

He made his will Apr 13, 1835, and it was probated 1 may 1847. He resided Sterling, MA.

Mason & Company, chair and furniture manufacturers in New York City and at Hunter. His character was firm and commanding, but with a keen sense of the humorous - at all times ready to see and appreciate a joke, and always ready with a pleasantry. He looked on the bright side of life, was never discouraged, but bravely met and overcame all obstacles. Meanness of any description excited his contempt, and honesty and integrity were his constant precept and practice. He was born to command, and was only satisfied when command was devolved upon him. It may be recollected by some that while Hon. Chester A. Arthur was President of the United States he visited Hunter as the guest of Colonel Mason. He held many positions of honor at various times
