Jump to navigationJump to searchPhebe5 Whitney (Jeremiah4, Nathan3, John2, Henry1), daughter of Jeremiah4 and Eva (Youngs) Whitney, was born 12 Dec 1777, Yorktown, NY, and died after 1820, Yorktown, NY. She was buried in the family cemetery, Yorktown, NY.
She married, 4 Jan 1797, Yorktown, NY, John Travis. He was born 11 Sep 1774, Yorktown, NY, and died Feb 1832, Yorktown, NY. He was buried in the Presbyterian Churchyard at Crompond, and afterward moved to a family cemetery on his farm.
He was a farmer. They settled in Yorktown, two miles south of Crompond Village.

Joseph Travis, b. 13 Jun 1801, Yorktown, NY; d. 27 Jun 1864, Yorktown, NY; bur. Crompond, NY; m. 17 Nov 1824, Yorktown, NY, Abigail Tompkins, b. 8 Dec 1801, Yorktown, NY, d. 16 Nov 1859, Peekskill, NY, bur. Crompond, NY, dau. of William and Lydia (Lane) Tompkins. They settled in New York City; and, in 1831, moved to Yorktown, and thence to Peekskill, NY. iii. Susanna Travis, b. 7 Apr 1804, Yorktown, NY; d. aft. Nov 1874; m. New York, NY, Frederick Conegeser, of New York, d. bef. Nov 1874; a carpenter. She res. Jane Street, NY, in Nov 1874. iv. Catharine Travis, b. 18 Jan 1808, Yorktown, NY; d. aft. Feb 1875; m. 1 Jan 1828, Yorktown, NY, John Tompkins Clements, b. 20 Feb 1808, Yorktown, NY, d. 2 Mar 1870, Liberty, NY, bur. Liberty, NY, son of Aaron and Sarah (Tompkins) Clements, of Yorktown, a farmer. They dwelt in Yorktown till 1832; then settled on a farm in Cortlandt, NY, one mile from Croton; lived, in 1836, at Croton Landing, in Cortlandt; and moved, in the Spring of 1837, to Peekskill, NY, where they dwelt for two years, during which he owned and commanded a sloop on the Hudson River. They then returned to Yorktown, and thence, in 1842, moved to Liberty, NY, where he lived on a farm till 1868, and then moved to the village and engaged in trade. v. Betsey Ann Travis, b. 19 Apr 1810, Yorktown, NY; d. aft. Jan 1875; m. 29 Nov 1831, Yorktown, NY, Elijah Horton, of Yorktown, b. 26 Apr 1807, Yorktown, NY, d. aft. Jan 1875, son of William and Ruhama (Buckbee) Horton. They dwelt in Yorktown, till 1833; in Carmel, N. Y., till 1845; and then settled in Putnam Valley, N. Y., near Jefferson Valley post-office. vi. Elias Whitney Travis, b. 14 Oct 1814, Yorktown, NY; m. Eliza Tompkins, b. 27 Aug 1809, Yorktown, NY, dau. of William and Lydia (Lane) Tompkins; a farmer, and dealer in cattle and horses. They lived in Yorktown, till May 1870; and then settled at Peekskill, N. Y., in Broad Street, between Howard and Cortlandt, where they were living in Dec. 1874. vii. Herman Leroy Travis, b. 30 Aug 1820, Yorktown, NY; d. 18 Sep 1820, Yorktown, NY; bur. Yorktown, NY.
