Dr. William7 Whitney (Jonathan6, Timothy5, Jonas4, Moses3, Richard2, John1), son of Jonathan6 and Dolly (Smith) Whitney, was born 15 Aug 1815, Cayuga, NY, and died 13 Nov 1863, Chicago, IL, of pneumonia.

He married, 7 Oct 1841, Troy, NY, Elizabeth J. Turner, daughter of Capt. John and Martha (Valentine) Turner, and sister of Capt. John B. Turner. She was born 12 Aug 1819, Malta, Saratoga Co., NY, and died 13 Oct 1910. She resided on Schiller St., Chicago, with her brother, Henry A. Turner. Capt. Turner was one of the originators of the Chicago & Galena Railway, and later its president. This road is now known as the Chicago & Northwestern. He was also president of the North Chicago Street Railway Company.

Dr. William Whitney died at his residence in Chicago Friday morning, Nov. 13, 1863, of pneumonia. He was born at Cayuga, NY, 15 Aug 1815, and graduated at Geneva College in 1839, and afterward studied medicine, the practice of which he followed in western New York for ten or twelve years, but was then compelled to give it up on account of his health. In 1847 he emigrated to Chicago, where he since continued to reside. He was son-in-law of Capt. John B. Turner and was connected with several of the most respectable families in that city. He was a man of fine talent, generous impulses and sterling integrity. He has been especially noted for his kindness to the poor, and spent a large portion of his time in ministering to their needs. He resided Mount Morris, NY, and Chicago, IL.

iii. Mary Clarissa Whitney, b. 2 Dec 1853; m. 25 Sep 1879, Edward Fisher Chapin; resided Lake Forest, IL. Mr. Chapin was b. 21 Jun 1846, Brookline, MA. He came to Chicago in Mar 1876, and is at present senior member of the firm of Chapin & Edwards, commission merchants, 6 and 8 Sherman St., Chicago, IL. Children:

b. Elizabeth Chapin, b. 5 Sep 1884.
c. Edward F. Chapin, Jr., b. 13 Jan 1886.
d. Mary Whitney Chapin, b. 18 Sep 1888.
