Welcome to the WRG website. Could you add a few more details to your user page? Was your grandmother Ester the daughter of James Francis Whitney, or did she marry a Whitney? Who did James Francis marry and what were the names of his children? I should be able to find them on the census records with the correct information, and potentially extend your tree.

James and Mary E. Whitney were listed in the 1900 census in Ward 7, Ottawa, LaSalle Co., Illinois. James was born Aug 1871, New york. His father was reportedly born in New York, and his mother in Ireland.
The closest fit I have been able to find is a James Whitney in Brooklyn, NY:
- James Whitney, b. ca. 1851, NY, a painter, his father b. Scotland, mother b. NY
- wife Rose, b. ca. 1861 Ireland
- son James Jr., b. ca. 1870/71 (in July)
