George Myron9 Whitney (Cole Mattison8, Phinehas7, Phinehas6, Joshua5, Nathaniel4, Nathaniel3, John2, John1), son of Cole Mattison8 and Catherine (Getman) Whitney, was born 27 Aug 1845, Ilion, NY.

He married, 9 Jan 1884, Ilion, NY, Josephine Steber. She was born 13 Sep 1851, Utica, NY.

He was born in Ilion, NY, where he resided for 27 years. Was educated at the public schools, and for some time was bookkeeper at Remington's Armory. During the year 1862 he was bookkeeper at Ford's Armory, at Watertown, where arms were made for the Union army. In 1873 he came to Chicago, and for twenty-three years has been connected with Marshall Field & County, wholesale. At the present time he is manager of the silk and dress goods departments; resided Chicago, IL, care of Marshall Field & County, wholesale.
