Henry Whitney (Jacob M., James), son of Jacob M. and Nellie (Freeman) Whitney, was born 24 Mar 1824, Shandaken, Ulster Co., NY, and died 28 May 1915, Middletown, Delaware Co., NY.
He married, 30 Dec 1852, Margaret Elizabeth Burhans, born 31 Mar 1831, Flatbush, Ulster Co., NY; died 27 Dec 1894, Delaware Co., NY.
Mr. and Mrs. Whitney are buried at New Kingston Valley Cemetery, Middletown, Delaware Co., NY. The birthdate for Henry on the gravestone is erroneous (1822), as is the death date for Margaret (1882).
Henry was the second oldest of thirteen children of Jacob and Nellie Whitney, and he lived the longest (91 years). Much of his life was spent in Delaware County, NY, where he and several of his brothers were engaged in farming and lumbering. By 1865 he owned a 200-acre farm near Union Grove, Delaware Co. After his wife died (1894), he went to live with his son Dewitt in Middletown, Delaware Co.
