* I did not fully extract this family as I do not think this is actually a Whitney. The index lists Henery M. under Whitney, and his surname *IS* written differently than the other members of the household. It does appear to have a y or a g on the end, but it is smudged and partially overwritten by his age. Also, the fact that others in the household have ditto marks for their surname, but his is actually written out does lead one to believe that his surname was different.

  • I do not think this is actually a Whitney. The index lists Henery M. under Whitney, and his surname IS written differently than the other members of the household. It does appear to have a y or a g on the end, but it is smudged and partially overwritten by his age. Also, the fact that others in the household have ditto marks for their surname, but his is actually written out, does lead one to believe that his surname was different. On the other hand, there was a Henry M. Whiteman, born about 1843 or 1844, living in Mill Creek Hundred in 1860, 1870, and 1880. We conclude that "Whitemay" above was an error for Whiteman.
