Chauncey Whitney, parentage unknown, was born circa 1796, MA, and died after 1870, probably Broome Co., NY.

He married, say 1818, Amanda Taft, b. 31 Dec 1798, Peru, MA, d. 7 Feb 1872, Broome Co., NY, age 73. She was dau. of Asa and Sarah⁶ (Whitney) Taft, and granddaughter of John⁵ and Mary (Cary or Cory) Whitney.

A descendant's DNA test results match 25 of 25 locations to the "signature" DNA profile of immigrant John Whitney, indicating that Chauncey Whitney was a descendant.

Note that Triangle and Lisle are only 7 miles apart, with Whitney Point, NY between them.

In 1820, he was listed just two lines away from Family:Whitney, Asa (1742-a1800) in the census (which had been alphabetized by initial letter of given name). Was he perhaps a younger son of this man?
