James Lewis8 Whitney (Abraham Johnson7, James6, Samuel5, Samuel4, Nathaniel3, John2, John1), son of Abraham Johnson7 and Philena (Adams) Whitney, was born 12 Mar 1808, Danby, NY, and died after Dec 1875.
He married firstly, 7 Oct 1827, Danby, NY, Lucy Maria Hall, daughter of Silas Hall, of Danby. She died 7 Jul 1841, Caton, NY, and was buried there.
He married secondly, 28 Oct 1841, Maria Eldred. She was born 24 Oct 1820, Otsego Co., NY, and died after 1880.
Phoenix says the following:
- "James Lewis Whitney, b. at Danby, N.Y., 12 March 1808; a farmer; married there, 7 Oct. 1827, Lucy Maria Hall, dau. of Silas Hall, of Danby. They dwelt in Danby till 1837; and then settled in Caton, N.Y., where she died, 7 July 1841, and was buried. He married (2d), 28 Oct. 1841, Maria Eldred, born in Otsego Co., N.Y., 24 Feb. 1820, dau. of Benjamin and Patience (Austin) Eldred. He has been justice of the peace, and supervisor of Caton; and was living there in Dec. 1875. "

James Lewis Whitney, b. 28 Mar 1834, Danby, NY; m. Julia Harris. v. Emeline Amanda Whitney, b. 5 Feb 1836, Danby, NY; d. 19 Apr 1866, Salamanca, NY, and was buried there; m. 1854, Joseph Harris.
