William Dewey8 Whitney (Dewey7, Jonas6, Samuel5, Nathaniel4, Nathaniel3, John2, John1), son of Dewey7 and Mildred Roots (Thornton) Whitney, was born 6 Oct 1830, KY, and died Jan 1860, Brandon, MS.

He married, 7 Sep 1853, Brandon, MS, Rebecca (Calhoun) Carroll, daughter of John C. and Eleanor (Harper) Calhoun. She was born about 1834, TN, and died after 1860. Nothing is known of her first husband, ----- Carroll.

Child of William Dewey8 and Rebecca (Calhoun)(Carroll) Whitney:

i. William Thornton9 Whitney, b. ca. 1854, MS; d. after 1930; m. 1884, Anna B. Wright.

Julia and William were apparently double counted in 1850, being with their mother as well as in the household of Letty Earnest.

E. C. Whitney must have been a step-son, son of Rebecca by her Carroll husband.

This was his sister Julia. William would seem to be her nephew, William's son. If so, William would be William Thornton. Sarah was apparently Sarah E. Allen, not Whitney.
