Chauncey Whitney, parentage unknown (but see Notes below), was born circa 1796, MA, and died after 1870, probably Broome Co., NY.
He married, say 1818, Amanda Taft, b. 31 Dec 1798, Peru, MA, d. 7 Feb 1872, Broome Co., NY, age 73. She was dau. of Asa and Sarah6 (Whitney) Taft, and granddaughter of John5 and Mary (Cary or Cory) Whitney.

i. Oliver C. Whitney, b. ca. 1819, NY; d. 5 Jun 1860, aged 39 years; bur. Taft Cemetery, Binghamton, NY;[1] m. 3 Jan 1843, Triangle, NY, Teressa Olmsted, b. 1 Jun 1819, d. 12 Jun 1860, daughter of Luman and Laurancy (Taft) Olmsted. No known children. ii. A descendant's DNA test results match 25 of 25 locations to the "signature" DNA profile of immigrant John Whitney, indicating that Chauncey Whitney was a descendant.
Note that Triangle and Lisle are only 7 miles apart, with Whitney Point, NY between them.
In 1820, he was listed just two lines away from Family:Whitney, Asa (b1774-a1830) in the census (which had been alphabetized by initial letter of given name). Was he perhaps a son of this man?
"Chauncey Whitney (b. ca. 1796-d. aft 1872) m. ca. 1818 Amanda Taft and had ch. Oliver, Diana, Smith, Lucy and Jackson. None of these names appear to derive from the Taft side of the family.
