The will of Mary Whitney, "of Brooke Walden, in the parish of Walden, in the Countie of Essex, widow "--signed 28 Nov. 1590; proved at Chelmsford in the same year-makes various bequests to "Thos. Stuteville, Esquire," to "my daughter Ann, his wife," to her sons Henry, George, Thomas the elder and Thomas the younger (the last two are appointed executors), to her daughters-in-law Elizabeth and Jane Whitney, and to Anne, Thomas and Elizabeth Whitney (her god-daughter), children of "my sonne Thomas the elder"; bequeaths to her son Thomas the younger all her furniture, silver pots and tankards, silver spoons, and "a great chestt bound with Iron and the lynnen therein," to her daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Whitney, "a Kertlett of wrought velvet and my best hoode, to Elizabeth Gardiner, her daughter's daughter, "my best gowne of silke Taffatie"; leaves tokens of remembrance to her neighbour Mary Frith, wife of Robert Frith, and to her maids Elizabeth Blurton and Margaret Porter; gives a sum of money to "the poore of Audley Ende"; and devises the residue of her estate to her son, Thomas Whitney the elder.[1]

He died 17 Feb 1601/2, Saffron Walden, Essex. 1. Thomas Whitney, b. 22 Sep 1586, Saffron Walden, Essex, mentioned in his grandmother's will, 1590, mentioned in his father's will, 1600 where he was mentioned as being under age 24. 2. Elizabeth Whitney, b. 11 Sep 1587, Saffron Walden, Essex. Probably died young. 3. Elizabeth Whitney, b. 3 Oct 1588, Saffron Walden, Essex, mentioned in her grandmother's will, 1590, mentioned in her father's will, 1600 where she was mentioned as being under age 18. 4. Nicholas Whitney, b. 10 Feb 1589/90, Saffron Walden, Essex, mentioned in his father's will, 1600 where he was mentioned as being under age 21. On 24 Apr 1610, "Nicholas Whitney, son of Thomas W., of Walden, Essex, arm." was admitted to Lincoln's Inn.[4] 5. George Whitney, b. 8 Oct 1592, mentioned in his father's will, 1600. 6.
