Joseph S.8 Whitney (William7, Ezra6, Ezra5, James4, John3, Jonathan2, John1), son of William7 and Sarah (Butler) Whitney, was born about 1827, Boston, MA, and died 22 Oct 1865, Boston, MA, aged 37 years 11 months 15 days, of erysipelas, merchant, son of William (b. Boston) and Sarah (b. Northampton).[1] He was buried in Lot 79, Cypress Avenue, Mount Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge, MA.

He married 10 Jan 1855, Dedham, MA, Anna B. Wood, daughter of Amos and Elizabeth (Blake) Wood.[2] She was born 23 Jun 1831,[3] Boston, MA, and died after her husband.

He was a merchant clerk at marriage, and a merchant at death. In 1857, he resided at 85 Summer Street, Boston, and dealt in carpets.
