James Holbrook8 Whitney (John7, John6, James5, James4, John3, Jonathan2, John1), born Boston, 1804; married Mary R Rutgers.

He was born in Boston and early engaged in the hardware trade; finally moved to New York City and formed the firm of Whitney & Mcfarland, and then failed in 1837 and took up iron brokerage business and was in it all his life and was quite successful; resided New York City.

ii. Mary H. Whitney, born 1832; died 1846.
iii. John Henry Whitney, born 1833; resided N.Y.C.
iv. Alfred R. Whitney, born 26 Feb 1835; married Adaline P. Nesbitt and Mary L. Freeman.
