Luther⁶ Whitney (Peter⁶, Daniel⁵, Abel⁴, Nathaniel³, Benjamin², John¹), son of Peter⁶ and Eunice⁶ (Whitney) Whitney, was born 21 Jun 1824, Gorham, ME, and died 20 Jan 1896, Limington, ME.

He married firstly, 1848, Phebe Horton, daughter of Charles and Esther (Cobb) Horton. She was born 8 May 1824, Gorham, ME, and apparently died before 1850, possibly in childbirth.

He "of Standish" married secondly, 10 or 16 Sep 1854, Standish, ME, Louisa Sawyer "of Limington",^[1] daughter of John and Sally (Fogg) Sawyer. She was born 1825, Limington, ME, and died 1880, Limington, ME.
