Family:Whitney, James Holbrook (1804-1874)

James Holbrook⁸ Whitney (John⁷, John⁶, James⁵, James⁴, John³, Jonathan², John¹), son of John⁷ and Clarissa (Slack) Whitney, was born 1804, Boston, MA.

He married Mary R. Rutgers.

He was born in Boston and early engaged in the hardware trade; finally moved to New York City and formed the firm of Whitney & Mcfarland, and then failed in 1837 and took up iron brokerage business and was in it all his life and was quite successful; resided New York City.

ii.	Mary H. Whitney, b. 1832; d. 1846.
iii.	John Henry Whitney, b. 1833; resided N.Y.C.
iv.	Alfred R. Whitney, b. 26 Feb 1835; m.(1) Adaline P. Nesbitt; m.(2) Mary L. Freeman.
v.	Cornelia Whitney, b. 1837; d. 1841.
vi.	Clementina Whitney, b. 1839; d. 1842.
