He married Mary R. Rutgers.
He was born in Boston and early engaged in the hardware trade; finally moved to New York City and formed the firm of Whitney & Mcfarland, and then failed in 1837 and took up iron brokerage business and was in it all his life and was quite successful; resided New York City.

Whitney, b. 26 Feb 1835; m.(1) Adaline P. Nesbitt; m.(2) Mary L. Freeman. v. Cornelia Whitney, b. 1837; d. 1841. vi. Clementina Whitney, b. 1839; d. 1842.
