Probably soon after his majority he moved to New York state and all his children were born in the town of Constantia, Oswego county. He was a school teacher, and also a dealer in live stock, in which latter business he lost a large sum. With two of his wife's brothers, he was one of the first settlers in that town. He was an enterprising man, and of acknowledged integrity, and held what offices of trust there were in the samll town. For instance, he was appointed supervisor when the board met in Rome, forty miles distant, and when on his visits to that place would do the merchandizing necessary for the inhabitants in the town.
