N.Y.; married at Rosendale Plains, Ulster Co., N.Y., 1 July 1824, by the Friends' ceremony, Sally Ann Coutant, born at Hurley, now Rosendale Plains, 20 Oct. 1806, dau. of Gabriel and Hannah (Roe) Coutant. The marriage-record calls them both "of New Paltz," N.Y. They settled at Esopus, N.Y.; and, in April 1851, removed to the town of Beekman, N.Y., living there until the destruction of their home by fire, on the night of 4 Feb. 1874. They dwelt in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., till Aug. 1874, when they settled at Wappinger's Falls, in Fishkill N.Y.

VIII. William Whitney, b. in New Paltz, N.Y., about ten miles from the Hudson River, 30 Dec. 1802, according to his father's family-record, while he says 1803, and the Marlborough Monthly Meeting record say "29th of 12th mo., 1801;" a farmer; married, 12 Dec. 1838, at Knowlesville, in Ridgeway, N.Y., Almira Ann Gates, who was born in Riga, N.Y., 26 Aug. 1815, dau. of Eli and Sally (Bull) Gates. He lived in Barre, N.Y., from 1840 to 1843, and then settled on the homestead of his father, about one mile south of Millville in Shelby, N.Y., where he was living in 1874.

IX. Jeremiah Whitney, b. in New Paltz, N.Y., 15 March 1810; a farmer; married in Ap. 1836, at Plattekill, N.Y., Catharine Palmer, who was born in Stroudsburgh, Penn., 10 Sept. 1817, dau. of ----- and Martha (Lawrence) Palmer. Soon after marriage, they settled in Barre, N.Y., where she died, 16 Sept 1849, and was buried in the Friends' Cemetery in Shelby, N.Y., one mile south of Millville. He married (2nd), 30 Oct. 1853, at Eagle Harbor, in Gaines, N.Y., Mary St. Clair Delano, who was born at Eagle Harbor, 6 June 1830, dau. of William and Maria (Whitney) Delano, and g. dau. of Hezekiah and Polly (St. Clair) Whitney. They moved, in 1866, to Clarendon, N.Y., where they were living in 1874, about three miles south of Murray Station.

IX. Elizabeth Whitney, b. in Plattekill, N.Y., 10 Dec. 1812; died at Pleasant Valley, in Plattekill, 28 Ap 1815, and was buried there in the Friends' Cemetery.

XI. Zadok Whitney, b. in Plattekill, N.Y., 30 Sept. 1814; a farmer; married, 25 Jan.1838, at her father's house in Shelby, one mile south of Millville, N.Y., by Rev. J.B. Lancton, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal Church in Ridgeway, N.Y., to Ann Eliza Curtis, who was born in Dalton, Mass., 1 Oct. 1822, dau. of Newman and Maria (Van Bergen) Curtis. They settled in Shelby; moved, 1 Ap. 1840, to Barre, N.Y.; returned to Shelby, 1 Ap. 1841; went back to Barre, 1 March 1845; and thence, 1 Ap. 1852, to Sweden, N.Y., where they were living in 1874, two miles north, and the same distance west, from Churchville Station, on the Central Railway.
