"I have finally transcribed and proofed some bible records that are in my possession.
"The following records are taken from a bible in my possession. My grandmother Alice Whitney was a great granddaughter of Jonathan (Jonathan Whitney is Pierce #1333; see the extensive discussion there).
"This family descends from Josiah Whitney whose children were born in Chelmsford MA 1710-1727. He moved to Willington CT in 1729. The ancestry of Josiah is not known, but we suspect that he is a grandson of John and Elinor. (Pierce misidentifies him as #44.) His grandson Peter Whitney (below) fought in the Revolution and received a pension. Family tradition says that the land that he and son Jonathan settled on in Tunbridge VT was received as sort of a pension also."
The Bible is Volume 3 (Ecclesiastes to Malachi) of Scott's Bible and published in Hartford 1818 (sixth American edition) On the flyleaf is written "Jona Whitnys" with the "a" raised and with two dots under it. In the back are four pages of family records. There appear to be at least four different ontributers. Based on context and my unprofessional comparison of the handwriting I assign them to 1) Jonathan Whitney, 2) his son Zebina Whitney, 3) his son Charles Carroll Whitney, and 4) his daughter Alice Whitney. Below I have marked each entry in the left margin with one of these numbers. The first page has a printed title of 'FAMILY RECORD' to which has been appended the words 'of Benj & Rebecca Cozzens'. I suspect this page was written by Zebina Whitney, son of Jonathan and who married Harriet Cozzens. The printed label 'MARRIAGES" on the first column has been crossed off and replaced by the word 'Births' Then appear the following seven births 2) Thos G. Cozzens was born in Providence R.I. April 29th - 1798 ===== ===== ===== 2) Harriet Cozzens was born in Gloucester R.I. March 2 - 1800 ===== ===== ===== 2) Stephen A Cozzens was born in Gloucester R.I. Feb. 26th - 1802 ===== ===== ===== 2) Benja Cozzens Jr. was born in Tunbridge Vt. Nov. 8th - 1808 ===== ===== ===== 2) Almira & Almidia Cozzens twin Daughters born in Tunbridge Vt. Feb. 11th 1813 ===== ===== ===== 2) Rebecca Cozzens was born in Tunbridge Vt. Nov. 28th 1814 ===== ===== ===== 2) Eliza Cozzens was born in Tunbridge Vt. Feb. 6th - 1819 ========================= The second column is blank. Second page, first column has a printed label of 'MARRIAGES'.
