The area known a Quobauge became Brookfield in 1673. Part was split off as Western (now Warren) in 1742. The boundary with New Braintree was adjusted in 1791. Part was split off as North Brookfield in 1812. Part was given to Ware in 1823. West Brookfield was formed from it in 1848. Land was acquired from North Brookfield in 1854. Part was split off as East Brookfield after 1920.
