Obituary, The Glasgow Weekly Times, Glasgow, Kentucky, Apr. 4, 1888, Cave City section dated Mar. 28th. (Last Monday night would be Mar. 26th.):
- "Mr. Dan Whitney died in Sherman, Texas, last Monday night. Mr. Whitney was raised near here, but had been engaged as traveling salesman for a wholesale harness house in Louisville for several years, and was recently married to a Miss Morton, of that city. His remains will be brought here and interred at his father's, Mr. Alfonso Whitney. Mr. Whitney was highly esteemed by all who knew him, and had made for himself an excellent reputation as a salesman."
Another obituary, The Courier-Journal, Louisville, Kentucky, Wednesday, March 28, 1888 - Page 6:
- "DEATH OF D. W. WHITNEY.
- "The Well-Known Drummer For Harbison & Gathright Passes Quietly Away at Sherman, Tex.
- "A telegram received by Messrs. Harbison & Gathright, yesterday afternoon, from Sherman, Tex., announced the death at that place in the morning, of Mr. Daniel W. Whitney, one of their traveling representatives.
- "Mr. Whitney had been ill but two weeks, suffering from pneumonia, and his decline was a most rapid one. For a while it was believed he was afflicted only with a severe cold, but his malady soon developed into the disease which carried him away, and the efforts of his physicians were productive of no results. He was attended in his illness by Mr. W. H. Digges, of the same firm, who will attend to the remains.
- "Mr. Whitney had been connected with Harbison & Gathright for over five years, and was one of that firm's most reliable and popular men, having sold the most goods of his line of any man traveling out of Louisville. He was a resident of Hart county, and but five weeks ago was married at Cave City, Barren county. The remains will be brought at one to that place, where the funeral will take place Saturday."
Children of Daniel W. and ----- (Morton) Whitney, if any, unknown. Probably there were none, since he died about five weeks after marriage.
