Dunham H.7 Whitney (Stover6, Benjamin5, Benjamin4, John3, Benjamin2, John1), son of Stover6 and Susan (Trufant) Whitney, was born 25 Feb 1839, Bowdoin[1] or Brunswick, ME,[2] and died 21 Jul 1903, Brunswick, ME, aged 64 years 4 months, married, truckman.[3] He was buried in Varney Cemetery, Brunswick, ME.[4]
Marriage intentions were published 22 or 27 Feb 1859, Topsham, ME, for him "of Topsham" and Margaret Nickerson "of Brunswick".[5] Marriage intentions were published 27 Feb 1860, Brunswick, ME, for him "of Topsham" and Margaret E. Nickerson "of Brunswick",[6][7] daughter of Moses Merrill and Clarissa D. (Colby) Nickerson. They were divorced in Oct 1869, Cumberland Co., ME.[8] She was born 10 Feb 1841, Topsham, ME. Marriage intentions were published 8 May 1871, Bowdoin, ME, for him and Margaret D. Coombs.[9] He married secondly, 8 May 1871, Gardiner, ME, Margaret D. Coombs.[10]) They were divorced in Oct 1877, Cumberland Co., ME.[11]
He married thirdly, 4 Mar 1878, Brunswick, ME, Margaret E. Whitney.[12] She was born Feb 1841, ME, and died after 1903. See Notes below.
Dunham Whitney of Brunswick, ME, aged 22, married, mustered in 24 Jun 1861, Co. D, 5th Maine Volunteer Infantry. He was promoted from Private to Corporal, 28 Oct 1863.[13] He also served as a Private in Co. B, 8th U.S. Veteran Volunteer Infantry.
In 1876, Dunham Whitney, hostler, resided on Cedar St., Bath, ME, according to the city directory. In 1880, Dunham Whitney, teamster, resided on Kim St. near Main, Bath, ME, according to the city directory. In 1887, Dunham Whitney, teamster, resided on McLellan St., Bath, ME, according to the city directory.[14]
On 7 Jul 1885, Dunham Whitney applied for a disability pension based on his service in Co. D, 5th Maine Infantry, and Co. B, 8th U.S. Veteran Volunteer Infantry. The application number is 544,384, and the certificate number is 343,631.[15]
On 15 Jul 1903, Margaret E. Whitney applied from Maine for a widow's pension based on the service of Dunham Whitney in Co. D, 5th Maine Infantry, and Co. B, 8th U.S. Veteran Volunteer Infantry. The application number is 788,077, and the certificate number is 566,829.[16]
