Henry6 Whitney (John5, Abraham4, Joseph3, John2, Henry1), son of John5 and Ann (Fox) Whitney, was born 18 Aug 1791, Norwalk, CT,[1] and died 25 Mar 1864, Shelby, OH. He was buried 27 Mar 1864.

He married firstly, 14 Mar 1810, Bedford, NY, Lucy Grumman, daughter of Jeremiah and Hannah (Fitch) Grumman. She was born 2 Jul 1791, Norwalk, CT, and died 22 Jan 1847, Shelby, OH. She was buried Shelby, OH.

He married secondly, 2 Nov 1851, Shelby, OH, Sarah Johnson, daughter of Charles and Sarah (-----) Johnson. She was born 1805, Vermont, and died after 1880.

Phoenix says the following:

"Henry Whitney, b. in Norwalk, Conn., 18 Aug. 1791; an edge-tool maker; married in Bedford, N.Y., 14 March 1810, in his nineteenth year, Lucy Grumman, who was of the same age, born in Norwalk, 2 July 1791, dau. of Jeremiah and Hannah (Fitch) Grumman. They lived in Wilton, Conn., till May 1819, when they moved to Ohio, settling, 19 June 1819, in Sharon, Richland Co., where he built a log-cabin, with a stick and clay chimney. This gave them shelter till 1824, when, as the Indians and wolves were very plenty, he required something stronger, and built a block-house of white oak timber, hewn ten inches thick by three feet wide, into which he moved 30 March 1828, and had a son born next day. The house was long since made into sidewalks. About 1834, he laid out into building lots a part of his farm, on the west side of the Black Fork, in Sharon, which was the beginning of the flourishing village of Shelby, containing, in 1874, about two thousand inhabitants. She died in Shelby, 22 Jan. 1847, on the same farm where they first settled, and was buried there. He married (2d), 20 Nov. 1848, Sarah Johnson, from Vermont, who was born in 1805, dau. of Charles and Sarah Johnson. She was living at Shelby, in 1873. He suffered paralysis in 1862, died in Shelby, 25 March 1864, and was buried on Easter Sunday, 27 March. He was a believer in the doctrine of universal salvation."

vi. Esther Mary Whitney, b. 10 Dec 1819, Shelby, OH; m. 3 Aug 1858, Mansfield, OH, John Rogers, after an engagement of nineteen years; a waggon-maker and ship-carpenter, born in Heidlersburgh, PA, 30 March 1816, son of Samuel and Elizabeth (Moore) Rogers. They were living, without children, at 25 Main St., Shelby, in 1873.
vii. Hannah Whitney, b. 8 Nov 1821, Shelby, OH; d. 25 Mar 1893, Amber, MI; m.(1) 31 Dec 1844, Shelby, OH, William Henry Harrison Ashley; m.(2) 12 Dec 1859, Hartford, MI, Parling/Parlin Robbins.
viii. Sarah Ann Whitney, b. 22 Jan 1823, Shelby, OH; went, after her mother's death, to East St. Louis, IL, with her brother, Henry Fitch Whitney, and lived with him during his life; m. 1 Oct 1866, St. Louis, MO, as his second wife, Alfred Carter Robertson, of the same city, an iron-founder and machinist, who was born in Barre, VT, 28 May 1814, son of William and Nancy (Shepherdson) Robertson. He has been a resident of St. Louis for more than thirty years; was of the firm of Palm and Robertson, who built the first locomotives ever made in that city, and the first gas-pipers and water-pipes that were laid there. He was in the South during the war and, it is intimated, did all that he could do for the success of the confederates. His first wife died in New Orleans. They were living at the corner of Victor and Buena Vista Streets, St. Louis, in Jul 1874, without children.

x. Jeremiah Whitney, b. 31 Mar 1828, Shelby, OH; a teacher of writing; unmarried; sometimes lives with his brother, William Whitney, at Mount Pleasant, IA, but more generally, as his sister expresses it, "his home is where his hat is."
xi. John Whitney, b. 10 Aug 1833, Shelby, OH; m. Elizabeth (-----) Elderton.
xii. Lucretia Whitney, b. 9 Apr 1836, Shelby, OH; m. Samuel Pierson Bloomfield.
