He wrote his will 8 Dec 9 William III [1697] and it was probated 22 Mar 1697[/8?]
He married, first, 13 Jun 1667, Nantwich, Cheshire, England, Elizabeth Wright.[3]
He married, second, 10 Jun [1684?], Wrenbury, Cheshire, England, Rachel Mercer.[4] She was buried 11 Mar 1684/5, Wrenbury, Cheshire, England.[5]
She, as "Rachel, Wife of Hugh Whytney of Coole Hall in the Parrish of Wrenbury & County of Chester Gent", wrote her will 5 Mar 1684[/5], in which she referenced a deed between herself and her husband Hugh Whitney giving her the power to dispose of certain items which had probably been hers from a previous marriage. In the will, she left much of her property to Sir Robert Cotton of Combermere and his children. That she had been previously married is proved by an entry in the inventory of her estate "the Deceadents first husbands wearing Apparrell".

Margaret Whitney, bp. 24 May 1677, Wrenbury, Cheshire, England.[8] She was perhaps the "Margaret Whittney, infant" bur. 4 May 1686, Wrenbury, Cheshire, England.[9] iv. Elizabeth Whitney, b. aft. 1676 (under 21 in 1697), probably the child bp. 17 Mar 1679/80, Wrenbury, Cheshire, England.[10] She was perhaps the "Elizabeth Whitney of Cool-Hall" bur. 12 Oct 1704, Wrenbury, Cheshire, England.[11]
