Family:Whitney, James S. (1798-1865)

James S.⁷ Whitney (Jesse⁶, David⁵, Nathan⁴, Nathaniel³, Benjamin², John¹), son of Jesse⁶ and Mary (Sawyer) Whitney, was born 15 Nov 1797, Saco, ME,^[1] or 15 Dec 1798,^[2] or 15 Nov 1797, Saco, ME, and died 29 Apr 1865, Roxbury, MA, aged 66 years, of drowning.^[3] He was buried in Dover, MA.

He married, 29 Sep 1823, Boston, MA, Eliza Reed.^[4] She was born 25 Oct 1801, Dover, MA, and died after 1880.

ii.	Charles Whitney, b. ca. 1829, MA; apparently died before 1849, when another child was given this name.

iv.	Henry Whitney, b. ca. 1834, MA; d. after 1850; no further record found.
v.	Mary A. J. Whitney, b. ca. 1836, Boston, MA; d. 28 Mar 1883, Milford, MA, aged 46 years 10 months 8 days, of phthisis pulmonalis;[5] m. 1 Oct 1854, Dover, MA, George R. J. Ruggles.[6]
vi.	Ruth D. Whitney, b. 3 Aug 1838, MA; d. after 1860; buried Dover, MA.[7]
vii.	John H. Whitney, b. ca. 1841, MA; res. Brookline in 1895.
viii.	Charles H. Whitney, b. ca. 1849, MA; not in family in 1855.
