Family:Whitney, John Armstrong (1841-1921)
John Armstrong Whitney (William), son of William and Clarinda (Dawley/Dowley/Dolley/Dolly) Whitney), was born 3 Feb 1841, Howard Flats, NY, and died 20 Mar 1921, Jackson, MI, age 81 years 1 month 17 days, of acute yellow atrophy of liver and acute degenerative myocarditis.[1] He was buried in Horton Cemetery, Horton, MI.[2]
He married firstly, Nov 1861, Emeline Pain/Payne, daughter of Abial B. and Olive (Clayville) Payne. She was born about 1848, Cherry Creek or Stockton, NY, and died before 1890.
He married secondly, 26 Nov 1890, Spring Arbor, MI, Eliza Medley Sparks, daughter of Samuel J. and Catharine (Travis) Sparks. She was born Nov 1856, Appleton, WI, and died 1914. She was buried in Horton Cemetery, Horton, MI.[3]
He married thirdly, 28 Aug 1915, Hanover, MI, Charlotte (Welch) Hodges, daughter of Albion and Sarah (Teachout) Welch.[4] She was born 27 May 1848, OH, and died 13 Mar 1939, Eaton Rapids, MI. She had married firstly, 31 Aug 1867, OH, Richard Luther Hodges. There must have been a divorce from her. She was buried in Munger Cemetery, Eaton Rapids, MI, under her first married name.[5]
He "of Hanover" married fourthly, 7 Feb 1918, Jackson Co., MI, Catherine Reardon "of Pulaski", daughter of Thomas and Hannah (Bailey) Reardon.[6] She was born about 1858, Ireland.
He enlisted 2 Sep 1861, Willing, NY, as a musician, Co. K, 85th Infantry Regiment; became a Private. He was transferred to Co. K. He was mustered out 1863, at Convalescent Camp, VA, due to disability.
