Family:Whitney, John Charles (1847-1902)

John Charles¹ Whitney (Walter^A, Walter^A, Theophilus^B), son of Walter and Leah (Edmunds) Whitney, was born 24 Sep 1847, Llanelly, Breconshire, Wales, and died 10 Jul 1902, Johnstown, PA (killed in the Rolling Mill Mine Disaster). He was buried in Grandview Cemetery, Johnstown, PA.^[1]

He married, about 1867, Mary Powell. She was born 25 Jun 1847, Wales, and died 11 May 1943, Johnstown, PA.^[2]

They resided Clearfield and Cambria Cos., PA.

ii.	Mary J. Whitney, b. ca. 1871, PA. She is known only from the 1880 census, but why a younger sister has the same name is a mystery.
iii.	Walter Whitney, b. ca. 1873, OH; d. after 1910; m. 5 Aug 1897, Cambria Co., PA, Katie Hutzler.
iv.	Rebecca Whitney, b. ca. 1876, PA; d. after 1880.
v.	Mary J. Whitney, b. 26 Jul 1878, Brisbin, PA; d. 11 May 1918, Johnstown, PA; bur. Grandview Cemetery, Johnstown, PA;[3] m. 1 Mar 1902, Cambria Co., PA, James Arthur Custer.
vi.	John Whitney, b. 4 May 1881, Houtzdale, PA; d. 29 Apr 1959; bur. Grandview Cemetery, Johnstown, PA;[4] unmarried.
vii.	William Whitney, b. 18 Apr 1885, Houtzdale, PA; d. 25 Jul 1939, Johnstown, PA; bur. Grandview Cemetery, Johnstown, PA;[5] m. 2 Apr 1907, Mahoning Co., OH, Marnie Keneghan, b. ca. 1888, dau. of Peter and Mary (Grogin) Keneghan.
viii.	Lester Raymond Whitney, b. 22 Jun 1890, PA; d. 23 Nov 1906, Johnstown, PA; bur. Grandview Cemetery, Johnstown, PA;[6] unmarried.
