Luther⁶ Whitney (Daniel⁵, Abel⁴, Nathaniel³, Benjamin², John¹), son of Daniel⁵ and Abigail (Stone) Whitney, was born 6 May 1795, Gorham, ME,^[1] and died 18 Nov 1870, Belfast, ME, but "found drowned" 22 Nov 1870, Belfast, ME, aged 70 years.^[2]

He "Mr." married firstly, 25 Apr 1819, Jackson, ME, "Miss" Catherine Jones "both of Thorndike".^[3] She died 1826, Thorndike, ME.

Marriage intentions were published 7 Nov 1827, Troy, ME, for him "Mr." "of Thorndike" and "Miss" Lydia Packard "of Troy".^[4] He married secondly, 16 Dec 1827, Troy, ME, Lydia Packard, daughter of Lebbeus and Betsey (Mitchell) Packard. She was born about 1806, Troy, ME, and died 17 May 1879, Thorndike, ME.
