William6 Whitney (Jared5, John4, Richard3, John2, Henry1), son of Jared5 and Sally (Rogers) Whitney, was born 16 Jun 1800, Branford, CT,[1] was baptized 17 Aug 1800, Branford, CT,[2] and died after 1878.
He married firstly, 3 Dec 1818, Clinton, NJ, Permelia Cogswell, daughter of Aaron and Elizabeth (Baldwin) Cogswell. She was born 13 May 1796, Clinton, NJ, and died 27 Oct 1839, Washington, DC.
He married secondly, 6 Aug 1842, Eveline Cogswell, daughter of Aaron and Elizabeth (Baldwin) Cogswell. She was born 9 Feb 1814, Clinton, NJ, and died after 1878.
Phoenix says the following:
- "William Whitney, b. in Branford, Conn., 16 June 1800; bap. at Branford, 17 Aug. 1800; a manufacturer of boots and shoes; has lived three years in Farmington, Conn.; five years in New Jersey; fourteen years in Washington and Georgetown, D. C.; three years in Springfield, Ohio; eleven years in Washington, again; and since that has lived for twenty years in Newark, N. J. He married at Irvington, in Clinton, N. J., 3 Dec. 1818, Permelia Cogswell, born in Clinton, four miles west of Newark, N. J., commonly called North Farms, 13 May 1796, dau. of Aaron and Elizabeth (Baldwin) Cogswell. She died, 27 Oct. 1839, in Washington, D. C., where he was married (2d), by Rev. Andrew A. Lipscomb, Methodist Protestant, 6 Aug. 1842, to Eveline Cogswell, born at Clinton, N. J., 9 Feb. 1814, sister of his first wife. 'In November 1812, when on board of the "Union," of Branford, Capt. Archibald Barker, he was captured by a British cruiser, off Charleston, S. C., and five days later, after being separated from the British fleet, in a gale, was recaptured by the American Privateer, "Mary Ann," of New York.'"

Georgetown, DC. iv. George Henry Whitney, b. 30 Jul 1830, Georgetown, DC; m.(1) Caroline Amanda Shepard; m.(2) Henrietta French.
