William C. Whitney, son of John and Mary (Thatcher) Whitney, was born about 1839, Stukeley, QC, and died 27 Apr 1891, Newport, VT.

He, of Troy, VT, married firstly, 26 Jun 1867, Glover, VT, Adelaide Miranda (Davis) Smith of Sutton, VT,^[1] daughter of Jonathan and Almira (Stoddard) Davis. She was born 19 Feb 1844, Newark, VT, and died 19 Nov 1873, Yonkers, NY. She was buried in East Ridge Cemetery, Sutton, VT.^[2] She had married firstly, 20 Mar 1860, Newark, VT, Nathan Smith.

He, of Newport, VT, married secondly, 28 Feb 1882, Emily T. Peck, daughter of Joel and Mary L. (Baldwin) Peck.^[3] She was born Oct 1845, Barton, VT, and died 18 Jan 1911, Newport, VT.

He served as a Private, Co. I, 1st Vermont Cavalry, in the Civil War. On 17 feb 1888 he applied for a pension as an invalid, Application #640848, Certificate #432192. His widow applied for a pension, Application #527990, Certificate #428268.
