Josiah Francis⁷ Whitney (Silas⁶, Josiah⁵, Nathaniel⁴, Nathaniel³, Benjamin², John¹), son of Silas⁶ and Elvira J. (Lane) Whitney, was born 23 Mar 1825, Gorham, ME, died 29 Mar 1908.

He married, 14 May 1850, Long Pond, ME, Mary Moore. She was born 15 Mar 1833, Concord, ME, and died 29 Jun 1909.

He was a farmer; resided Solon, ME.

i.	Seth Harding8 Whitney, b. 2 Jul 1851, d. 1923; m. 26 Apr 1889 in North Vassalboro, ME. Hannah Getchell, b. 1836, d. 1912; resided North Vassalboro, ME. Seth is buried in the North Vassalboro Cemetery. Hannah is buried in the North Manchester Meetinghouse Cemetery in Manchester, ME.
ii.	Helen A. Whitney, b. 16 Jul 1852; m. 1884, E. J. Abbott; resided Rochester, NH.
iii.	Delara A. Whitney, b. 22 Feb 1854; m. 24 Feb 1879, A. C. Stevens, resided Lowell, MA.
iv.	George W. Whitney, b. 23 Nov 1855, d. 1914; m. 26 Dec 1879 in Norridgewok, Somerset Co., ME, Azzettia Wood of Norridgwok, b. 1856, d. 1906; resided Norridgewock, ME. Both are buried in the Ben Venue Cemetery in Augusta, ME
v.	Mary E. Whitney, b. 1 Mar 1857; m. 25 Jul 1880, W. B. Fletcher; resided Chelmsford, MA.
vi.	William H. Whitney, b. 25 Mar 1859; m. 10 Jun 1884, Eva Longley; resided Solon, ME, died 26 Nov 1897.
