Julius J.8 Whitney (Jonas Prescott7, Josiah6, Josiah5, David4, Benjamin3, John2, John1), son of Jonas Prescott7 and Rebecca (Piper) Whitney, was born 28 May 1836, Ashby, MA, and died 16 Jun 1925, Fitchburg, MA. He was buried in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Fitchburg, MA.[1]

He married firstly, 25 Feb 1864, Boston, MA, Harriett A. Downe, both of Fitchburg, daughter of William S. and Betsey (-----) Downe.[2] She was born 23 Jul 1838, Fitchburg, MA, and died 17 Dec 1865, Fitchburg, MA, aged 27 years 4 months 24 days, of bronchitis.[3]

He married secondly, 18 Oct 1866, Mary Jones8 Whitney, daughter of Theodore7 and Betsey (Wheeler) Whitney. She was born 2 Jun 1843, Westminster, MA, and died after 1880.

He was a Sergeant, Co. D, 21st Massachusetts Infantry.

He resided Brattleboro, VT.

i. Herbert Prescott9 Whitney, b. 10 Aug 1865, Fitchburg, MA;[4] m. 27 Apr 1887, Boston, MA [recorded at Fitchburg, MA], Jennie M. Tainter, b. ca. 1868, Fitchburg, MA, dau. of Albert and Delia (-----) Tainter.[5] Children:
a. Mildred10 Whitney, b. 2 Aug 1906, Fitchburg, MA;[6] d. 5 Aug 1906, Fitchburg, MA [also recorded in Leominster, MA], aged 2 days, of infantile debility.[7]
