Melvin B.⁸ Whitney (Ebenezer⁷, Ebenezer⁶, Samuel⁵, Samuel⁴, John³, Benjamin², John¹), son of Ebenezer⁷ and Louisa (Gowell) Whitney, was born 6 Apr 1833, Bowdoinham, ME,^[1] and died 9 Oct 1886, West Gardiner, ME, aged 63.^[2]

He married firstly, 9 Nov 1873, Boston, MA, Mary Wheeler, daughter of William and Margaret (-----) Wheeler. She died before 1880.

He married secondly, 9 Feb 1881, West Gardiner, ME, Rozilla A. Stewart.^[3] She was born May 1840, ME, and died after 1900.
