Wells Rossiter8 Whitney (Lewis LeGrand7, Lewis Smith6, Timothy5, David4, Joseph3, John2, Henry1), son of Lewis LeGrand7 and Rebecca Todd (Webb) Whitney, was born 4 Sep 1841, Stamford, CT,[1] and died 1894, Delhi, NY.

He married, 16 Nov 1864, Unadilla, NY, Mary Louise Teller, daughter of Jacob and Maria (Seaman) Teller. She was born 31 Aug 1842, Fulton, NY, and died after 1895.

He was a clerk. He lived at Unadilla from Jan 1864 to Mar 1873; and, since that, at Delhi, NY. He enlisted at Stamford, CT, 12 Aug 1862, as corporal, in Company A, 28th Regiment, Connecticut Volunteer Infantry; took part in the seige and capture of Port Hudson; and was mustered out at New Haven, CT, 28 Aug 1863.

He was Town Clerk of Unadilla, NY, in 1868.

He was the clerk of the Board of Supervisors of the County of Delaware, Dec 1894.

On 9 Jul 1890 he applied for a pension based on that service.

As his widow, Mary received a pension for his service, having applied 4 Jan 1895, from Delhi, Delaware Co., NY. Application number 607,221, certificate number 418,258.
