From: Jeanne Muse <102256.2027 -at- CompuServe.COM> Subject: Whitney Newsletter 10-12 Date: 12 Oct 96 21:25:24 EDT Hello everyone! Our new List Server is up & running, I understand. So I thought I'd give it a try! I got this to you by: 1) Creating a new address in my address book: WHITNEY -at- rmgate.pop.indiana.edu 2) Sending the message just like regular e-mail. I hope everybody will give this a try when they want to post a message to the group. To repeat some of Michael Whitney's instructions: To send mail to the group: WHITNEY -at- rmgate.pop.indiana.edu All other commands, use the address: MAISER -at- rmgate.pop.indiana.edu You can put anything in the Subject line (for your own reference). All commands need to be typed in the body of the message as written below. Some of the commands are: REVIEW WHITNEY = See if your name is on the list SUB WHITNEY = Subscribe to the list UNSUB WHITNEY = Unsuscribe SEND GEN-LIST = List of Internet Genealogy newsgroups SEND LIST.TXT = List More List-Server groups to which you can subscribe SEND FILELIST = Retrieve archived messages SEND INDEX = Index of Files available for downloading SET WHITNEY DIGEST = Sends you all of 1 day's messages at once SET WHITNEY NODIGEST = Puts you back into regular mail mode SET WHITNEY NOMAIL = Turns off your mail temporarily SET WHITNEY MAIL = Turns your mail back on Michael has put alot of hard work into getting this going. Thank you Michael! I'm sure that we will learn alot from using this system. If anybody has questions, post it here on WHITNEY -at- rmgate.pop.indiana.edu. ---------------------------------- Before we got the server up & running, earlier in the week Merton L. Alexander <102074,167 -at- compuserve.com> sent me this query: >>A new wrinkle on my Whitney family. Remember, I am looking for a Philena Whitney was was married to Nathan Loveland. They died (perhaps) in Cayuga Co., NY. I know discover that Nathan and Philena may have married about 1810 in Lewis Co., NY. Anyone have any infor. on Whitney's of Lewis Co., NY? Nathan Loveland and Philena Whitney's children were: Olive, George, Sarah, and Ellen. Just a thought, could Olive be short for Oliver?<< ----------------- No other news this week. I've been trying to get my new computer system running smoothly, & it took longer than expected. Happy Hunting to all! :-) Jeanne
