From: Tim Doyle <tdoyle -at- doit.com> Subject: [WHITNEY-L] Can someone help? Date: Mon, 30 Aug 1999 07:45:12 -0600 I remember that fairly recently I read an article about a WHITNEY involved in an indian attack. She was a schoolteacher and defended her students. I just can't remember if this was in my Pierce Project editing, on the WHITNEY-L mailing list, or elsewhere. I found the following reference on page 237 of Pierce (to be posted soon) and wanted to see if the two items were related. Can anyone help? ORLANDO, b. Mar. 27, 1792; m. and went to Texas. I suppose died there. It is supposed that a school teacher by the name of WHITNEY, who, with her school, was attacked by Indians in Western Texas a number of years ago, and who lost her life in successfully defending her pupils, was a daughter of Orlando, but could get no positive proof. This Orlando was the son of JONATHAN WHITNEY (David, Jonathan, Jonathan, Benjamin, John).
