In the Pierce transcripts it shows John Whitney with sons Asahel and Ira, but wife is unknown. I know that my John had four children, Truman, Melinda, Elijah and Chauncey. I always suspected that there were more before these four. Asahel Whitney is on the 1840 census in Ashtabula Co., OH, John Whitney is also in Ashtabula Co., OH. Asahel married Harriet Hatch who's family seems to have traveled with the Whitney family as this is not the only Hatch to marry into the family. In 1840 Ira is in Chautaqua Co., NY where Truman Whitney (my ancestor through John) and Jarvis Christy (husband of Melinda Whitney, John's daughter) are. By 1850, Ira Whitney is also in Waukesha Co., WI as is Asahel Whitney (in the household of my John Whitney). Now, I just need proof that Joshua Whitney had a son named John.
