Ebenezer6 Whitney (Zachariah5, Zachariah4, Ebenezer3, Richard2, John1), son of Zachariah5 and Sarah (Stanton) Whitney, was born 28 May 1762, Mansfield, CT,[1] and died 31 Mar 1855, Montague, MA, aged 92 years 10 months, of old age.[2]

He married firstly, 18 Dec 1786, Montague, MA, Rachel Perne Rawson, of Uxbridge.[3] She was born 3 Apr 1764, Mendon, MA, and died 15 Nov 1819, Montague, MA, in her 56th year.[4]

He married secondly, 21 Feb 1821, Montague, MA, Lavinia (Burnham) Potter,[5] daughter of Moses and Abigail (Bacon) Burnham. She was born 25 Jan 1788, Montague, MA, and died 30 Nov 1866 [but "Lovina" and 31 Nov 1866 per death record], Montague, MA, aged 78 years 10 months, of old age and general debility.[6] She had married firstly, 21 Sep 1807, Montague, MA, James Potter, born 15 Jan 1786, Williamsburg, MA, and died 13 Feb 1815, Montague, MA.

He was enumerated in 1798 in Montague in the U.S. Direct Tax.[7]

He was born in Mansfield, CT, in 1762, on a farm, where he resided until three years of age when he moved with his parents to Montague, MA, where he lived until his majority, on attaining which he went to Worcester and enlisted as a private in the Continental army in the company commanded by Captain Joshua Pierce in Colonel Bigelow's regiment, in which he served from 14 Sep 1777, until 31 Dec 1779. In 1780, according to the army books, he was a private in Colonel Bigelow's regiment. In 1786, after the war was over, he was married in Uxbridge and returned to Montague, where he ever after resided, except for a short when he lived in Conway, MA. He received a pension from the government which began 9 Apr 1818; at that time it was stated he was of the Massachusetts continental line. He followed agricultural pursuits all his life after the war. He was given a pension by the government 6 May 1818, when 70 years of age. He resided Conway and Montague, MA.
