Notes

Marriage intentions were published, 16 Sep 1762, Braintree, MA, for Sarah Whitney and David Pain, "both of Braintree", and also 4 Apr 1767, Braintree, MA, for Sarah Whitney "of Braintree" and Micajah Pope "of Stoughton".[2] There is no indication that the first marriage ever occurred. The second marriage is confirmed by the Glover Memorials, which give two children, born in Quincy, MA: John Pope; and Martha Fletcher Pope, b. 1 Nov 1767, m. Anthony Hunt of Weymouth.[3] I believe these apply to the above Sarah6 Whitney, mainly because her mother's name was Martha (Fletcher) Whitney. Why she was living in Braintree is a mystery.
