Merrill E.⁸ Whitney (Eliphalet⁷, Eliphalet⁶, Joshua⁵, Joshua⁴, Richard³, Richard², John¹), son of Eliphalet⁷ and Sally (Ryan) Whitney, was born 1823, and died 1883. He is buried in Browns Hill Cemetery, Portland, ME.

He married, 7 Feb 1857, Portland, ME, Martha E. Fickett. She was born about 1834, ME, and died after 1880.
