Lysander S.9 Whitney (Benjamin8, John7, Abner6, Samuel5, William4, Nathaniel3, John2, John1), son of Benjamin8 and Mehitabel (Whitcomb) Whitney, was born 31 Oct 1826, Fitchburg, MA,[1] and died 3 May 1906, Chester, VT, aged 79 years 6 months 3 days. He is buried in Pleasant View Cemtery, Ludlow, VT.
He married, 13 Mar 1853, Ludlow, VT, Lydia Ann Burnap, daughter of Edward and Anna (Daby) Burnap. She was born 9 May 1828, Ludlow, VT, and died 22 Jan 1890, Chester, VT, aged 61 years 8 months 13 days, of influenza. She is buried in Pleasant View Cemtery, Ludlow, VT.
He served in Co. C, 16th Vermont Volunteers, in the Civil War.
Pleasant View Cemetery, Ludlow, Vermont -- An American flag is chiseled on stone and it reads:
Lysander Whitney | Died | May 3, 1906 | AE. 79 yrs. 6 ms 3 ds | CO. C 16 VT VOLS | There the wicked cease from troubling and the | weary are at rest.
Lysander was a painter by profession.
In Fitchburg Old Town Records, Lysander was listed as a member of the Town Militia on May 1848 (age 22). He was a volunteer in the Green Mountain Boys during the Civil War and received $100 pension for his 9 months enlistment. His company fought in the Battle of Gettysburg (July 1, 2 & 3, 1863) as well as two other battles.

He is buried in Pleasant View Cemetery, Ludlow, VT. iv. Minnie Ann Mehitable Whitney, b. 30 Jan 1862, Ludlow, VT; d. 4 Apr 1958, Athol, MA; m. ca. 1889, Florry Edgar Brown. She is buried in Orange, MA. v. Elmer Derby Whitney, b. 9 Jun 1864, Ludlow, VT; d. 14 Feb 1961, Athol, MA; m. 18 Apr 1888, Warwick, MA, Grace Idelle Harding. He is buried in Orange, MA.
