Vol.; was wounded in the battle of The Wilderness; and died of small-pox, 22 Jan. 1865, in the hospital at Montpelier, Vt., and was buried at Montpelier. Roll of Honor, No.16, p.166, shows that W. H. Whitney, a private in Co. D, 1st Vermont Cavalry, died 27 Jan. 1865, and was buried in the Soldiers' Cemetery at Montpelier, Vt. Perhaps this refers to the same person.

IV. Hannah Taylor Whitney, b. in Vermont, 5 June 1843; married Jeremiah Marston Merrill; and settled at Craftsbury, Vt., where she died 10 Ap. 1868, and was buried. After her death, he moved to Illinois. They had no children.
