Seventh Generation.
fitter; married in 1829, at Norfolk, by Truman Spencer Wetmore, Esq., to Lucinda Wood, who was born in Egremont, Mass., 27 Jan. 1811. They settled at Wolcottville, Conn., and there died; he, 16 June 1871; she, 13 May 1874. They were earnest and devout members of the Methodist Episcopal Church; he serving acceptably as steward, trustee, and class-leader; and she, with equal zeal in her department. Their obituary notices show that they were greatly beloved by their associates. They were buried at Wolcottville.
1799 III. Norman Riggs, b. at Norfolk, Conn., 10 May 1816; a farmer; married, 2 May 1848, at Otisco, N. Y., by Rev. Addison K. Strong, Congregational, to Mercy Matilda Cowles, dau. of Samuel Peck and Phebe (Roberts) Cowles, of Otisco, where she was born, 3 Dec. 1825. They settled on the homestead of his father and grandfather, in the south-east corner of Norfolk, Conn., where she died 11 Feb. 1874, and was buried at Winchester Centre, Conn. He has served his town as justice of the peace, and in other offices, and was still living, in Jan. 1875, in the house where his grandfather died. 5828
1800 IV. Mary Riggs, twin, b. in Norfolk, Conn., 14 May 1819; married, 19 Ap. 1840, at her father's house in Norfolk, by Rev. Joseph Eldridge, D. D., Congregational, to Frederick Bronson, a farmer, son of Levi and Mary (Benedict) Bronson, of Winchester, Conn., where he was born, 2 July 1815. They dwelt in Winchester from Oct 1840 to Ap. 1847, and then moved to North Canaan, Conn., where they were living in Jan. 1875. He has been assessor for three years; selectman, three years; justice of the peace, eight years; and has represented his town in the Legislature of Connecticut. 5831
1801 V. Maria Riggs, twin, b. at Norfolk, Conn., 14 May 1819; married, 25 Sept. 1844, at her father's house in Norfolk, by Rev. Mr. Ives, pastor of the Congregational Church in Colebrook, Conn., to Luman Foote, a tanner and harness-maker, son of Pliny and Dorinda (Mills) Foote,1 of Norfolk, where he was born, 25 Dec. 1820. They settled in Canaan, Conn., where he owned and managed a tannery till Oct 1856; then lived in Scranton, Penn., till Ap. 1858, when they returned to their old neighborhood, which, by a division of the town, had become North Canaan; and there they were still living, in Feb. 1875, without children. He has been selectman of his town.
  1 Pliny Foote was son of Luther Foote, of Norfolk, Conn., and Mary Ann Phelps, dau. of Asahel Phelps, of Hebron, Conn, and widow of Hosea Bronson, or the same town: g. son of Capt. John Foote, of Simsbury, Conn., and Roseanna, dau. of Jonathan Humphrey, of the same town; g. g. son of Daniel Foote (of Hartford, and afterward of Simsbury, Conn.) and Mary, dau. of Joseph Collyer, of Hartford; g. g. g. son of Samuel and Mary (Merrick) Foote, of Hatfield, Mass.; g. g. g. g. son of Nathaniel and Elizabeth Foote, of Wethersfield, Conn.; and g. g. g. g. g. son of Nathaniel and Elizabeth (Deming) Foote, who were among the first settlers of Wethersfield.
