Joshua6 Whitney (David5, Nathan4, Nathaniel3, Benjamin2, John1), son of David5 and Abigail (Knight) Whitney, was born 17 Aug 1761, Gorham, ME,[1] and died 25 February 1832 in Buxton, ME.[2]
He married, 17 Nov 1786, Falmouth, ME, Molly More, by Rev. Ebenezer Williams.[3] She died 30 Sep 1818, Buxton, ME.[4]

Jun 1787, Falmouth, ME; d. 23 Feb 1866, Boston, MA, aged 78 years 8 months, by a burn;[6] m. 1 Dec 1808, Joseph Phagins,[7] b. ca. 1779, Ireland, d. 10 Aug 1831, Portland, ME, aged 52 years, by suicide. - JOSEPH PHAGINS, born in Ireland ca. 1779, died at Portland, Maine 10 August 1831, age 52, due to suicide. He married at Stroudwater, Maine 1 December 1808 by Rev. Caleb Bradley to MARY WHITNEY . She was born at Falmouth, Maine June 1787 (calculated); and died at Lindall Place, Boston, Mass. 24 February 1866, age 78 yrs. 8 mos., due to a burn. Mary was a daughter of Joshua and Mary (Moore) Whitney. She was buried at Mount Hope Cemetery, Boston but was later reinterred to an unknown location according to the cemetery’s records. Joseph’s obituary was found in two newspapers: [National Intelligencier, 18 August 1831] Joseph Phagon, committed suicide Aug. 10, in Portland, Me., age about 50. She was probably the Huldah Whitney who m. 3 Dec 1832, Limerick, ME, Samuel Sloper.[8] iv. Samuel Whitney, b. ca. 1797; d. 26 May 1821, Buxton, ME.[9] v. Nancy Whitney, b. ca. 1798. vi. That daughter Mary married Joseph Phagins is proven. An application by David W. Clark to the Sons of the American Revolution is in error as to Mary's mother's surname (given as "Clark" instead of "More/Moore").[12]
