Family:Whitney, Mark William Henry (1831-a1880)
Mark William Henry7 Whitney (Barnard6, William Clark5, Henry4, Josiah3, John2, Henry1), son of Barnard6, was born 13 Jun 1831, at the corner of Cross and White Streets, Paterson, NJ, and died after 1880.
He married, 11 Nov 1855, Orange, NJ, Eleanor Antoinette Harrison, daughter of John and Margaret (Jacobus) Harrison. She was born 24 Sep 1837, Cedar Grove, NJ. She apparently had died before 1880, when her daughters were living with their grandparents and her husband was living alone. Since the family is not found in 1870, it is hard to say whether she died before 1870, too, but it certainly seems possible, given that there were no further children. On the other hand, her husband is reported as "married", not "widowed", in 1880.
Phoenix says the following:
- ". . . a carpenter . . . . They settled at Paterson, and were living there in May 1875. He served for about two years and two months, in Company E, 72d Regiment, New York State Volunteers (2d Excelsior Brigade); and was also in the 12th Regiment, New York Militia, in the war of 1861."
Children of Mark William Henry7 and Eleanor Antoinette (Harrison) Whitney, all born Orange, NJ:
i. Sarah Melissa8 Whitney, b. 14 Jul 1856; and was living there in 1880, unmarried. ii. John Walter Whitney, b. 19 Dec 1861; d. 2 Jul 1864, Orange, NJ, where he was buried in Rosedale Cemetery. iii. Jenny Clifton Whitney, b. 20 Jul 1863; and was living there in 1880.
