Sherman E.9 "Sherd" Whitney {Mordecai8, Thomas7, Phinehas6, Samuel5, William4, Nathaniel3, John2, John1), son of Mordecai8 and Eliza Ann (Orr) Whitney, was born 7 Jul 1867, Muncie, Delaware County, Indiana, and died 25 Jan 1933, Muncie, Delaware County, Indiana.

He married, 25 Feb 1891, Delaware County, Indiana, Anna Bell Carmichael, daughter of Rev. Valentine Gibson and Samantha B. (Tidds) Carmichael. She was born Feb 1871, Muncie, Delaware County, Indiana, and died 2 Jan 1948.

Sherman Whitney was bequeathed a chest and bed by his father Mordecai that eventually came into the possession of his son Ralph Whitney. When Ralph and his wife Mable had the chest refinished, a secret drawer was discoverd and in it were an account book kept by Mordecai Whitney and discharge papers of Mordecai and his brothers, who served in the Civil War. The chest and bed are now in the possession of Beth Wentz.

ii. Ralph Whitney, b. 22 Jun 1893, Indiana; d. Oct 1971, Indiana; m. 13 Sep 1913, Delaware County, Indiana, Mabel C. Gregory. She was b. 31 Dec 1892. Child:
1. A. W. Norman11 Whitney; m. 3 Oct 1937, Susan Frances Scott. She was b. 1918.
iii. Jeannette "Nettie" Whitney, b. 27 Feb 1895; d. 26 Apr 1957; m. 14 Feb 1914, Delaware County, Indiana, Thomas Vern Quirk. Children:
1. Anna Lyonors Quirk, b. 1 Jul 1914, Indiana; d. 5 Dec 1997, Indiana.
2. Sherman V. Quirk, b. 19 Oct 1915, Indiana; d. 18 May 1928, Indiana, in an accident.
3. Rebecca Elizabeth Quirk, b. 26 Nov 1917, Indiana; d. 6 Feb 2004, Indiana; m. 20 Jan 1940, Robert C. Keesling. He was son of Roby and Jeanette (Milliken) Keesling, b. 11 Jun 1917, d. 21 Mar 2004, Muncie, Delaware County, Indiana. Both are buried in Elm Ridge Cemetery, Delaware County, Indiana.
4. Don Pete Quirk, b. 10 Jun 1920, Indiana; d. 24 Nov 1944, in World War II.
5. Charlotte Vail Quirk, b. 15 May 1922; m. 4 Aug 1944, Indiana, Floyd Creech.
6. Michael Joe Quirk, b. 28 Feb 1931, Indiana; m.(1) 1 Jan 1950, Indiana, Mary Ellen Shockley; m.(2) Cindy -----.
7. Cyntha Kaye Quirk, b. 15 Sep 1938, Indiana; d. 9 Apr 2005, Indiana; bur. Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Mount Pleasant, Delaware County, Indiana; m. 11 Aug 1950, Indiana, Arvin Earl Michael.
