Stephen Thomas8 Whitney (Freeman7, Enoch6, Moses5, Nathaniel4, Nathaniel3, Benjamin2, John1), son of Freeman7 and Mary S. (Gray) Whitney, was born 15 May 1821, Harrison, ME, and died 15 Dec 1897, Harrison, ME.

He married, int. 12 Apr 1845, cert. 28 Apr 1845, 4 May 1845, Harrison, ME, Catherine Brown.[1] She was born 28 Aug 1820 or Aug 1822, Waterford, ME, and died 30 Dec 1905, aged 76 years 7 months 6 days.[2]

He is a farmer and veterinary surgeon; resided Harrison, ME.

i. Mary9 Whitney, b. 10 Apr 1846; d. 4 May 1846, Harrison, ME.
ii. Irene L. Whitney, b. 10 Jun 1847; d. 23 Jun 1865, Harrison, ME.
iii. Ann Eliza Whitney, b. 11 Jul 1849; int. 13 May 1880, cert. 18 May 1880, m. 25 May 1880, George E. Tarbox, of Harrison.[3] George E. Tarbox was engaged a number of years in the business of manufacturing clothing for Boston contracts. He has been an active farmer, and has served the town on board of selectmen and as a member of school committee. He represented his district (Harrison and Otisfield) in the Legislature of 1907. He has been station agent for the Bridgton & Saco Valley R. R. at Harrison Village and is now employed in an extensive lumber business in Cornish, for the Maine Central R.R. Co. Children:
a. Chester D. Tarbox, b. -----; proprietor of a flourishing livery business in Harrison Village.
iv. Frances D. Whitney, b. 19 Feb 1851; d. Newport, RI; m. Apr 1872, Daniel Woodsum,[4] b. 12 Mar 1847, Harrison, ME, son of John and Chloe (Howard) Woodsum. He was a skilled machinist at engineer, and in company with his brother, Frank M., invented a superior type of turbine water wheel in their early life. They worked at Harrison a few years in a machine shop, and subsequently went to New Hampshire, and built several steamboats to run on Lake Sunapee, owning the line for transportation of passengers and freight and for excursion use on that fine like which is surrounded by several fashionable summer resorts. Children:
a. Silas Melvin Woodsum, b. -----; he was a brilliant scholar; graduated from Bridgton Academy in 1889; studied law in New York. He was obliged to go to Denver, Colo., on account of ill health, but finished his law studies there and was admitted to the Bar. He died in Denver in 1900. He married Miss Estelle Hubbard of New York, a fine singer in New York and Philadelphia churches.
b. Edgar Woodsum, b. 13 Feb 1877; lives with his mother in Newport, RI, unmarried.
v. Charles Sumner Whitney, b. 6 May 1853; m. Anna Decker Ridlon.
vi. William Henry Whitney, b. 12 May 1855; m. Laura Ella9 Whitney.
vii. Stephen Horace Whitney, b. 24 Aug 1857; m. Harriet "Hattie" Waldron Rodick.
viii. Fred Augustus Whitney, b. 20 Nov 1859; m. Mabel Wheeler of Berlin, NH, b. 7 May 1862, d. 19 June 1935.
ix. Kate Elizabeth Whitney, b. 20 Oct 1861; d. 28 Sep 1922; "Lizzie K." m. int. 14 Sep 1882, Andrew J. Ricker, of East Baldwin, Portland. or Hiram, ME.[5]
