Family:Whitney, William M. (1817-1879)
William M. Whitney (William), son of William and Martha (Millett) Whitney, was born about 1818 [but calculated from age at death, 16 Mar 1819, also on gravestone], Gloucester, MA, was baptized 6 Sep 1817, Gloucester, MA,[1] and died 27 Aug 1879, Chelsea, MA. aged 60 years 5 months 11 days, of cancer.[2] He was buried in Grove Cemetery, Belfast, ME.[3]
He married firstly, 31 Mar 1844, Boston, MA, Abigail R. Morse,[4] daughter of Elihu and Betsey (Houghton) Morse. She was born 24 Aug 1824, Brookfield, VT,[5] and died 21 Nov 1846, Milford, MA, aged 22 years 2 months 27 days, of general debility.[6]
He, of Boston, MA, married secondly, 22 Feb 1849, Brookfield, VT, Lucy Jane Morse, of Brookfield, VT,[7] daughter of Elijah and Olive (Herrick) Morse. She was born 24 Nov 1828, Brookfield, VT,[8] and died 22 Feb 1861, Brookfield, VT, aged 32 years.[9] She was a first cousin of his first wife.
He, of Brookfield, VT, married thirdly, 4 Jul 1861, Brookfield, VT, Malvina F. S. Arnold, of Brookfield, VT, daughter of Sprague and Sally (Carley) Arnold.[10] She was born about 1832, Brookfield, VT, and died 14 Apr 1862, Brookfield, VT, aged 30 years. She was buried in Brookfield Center Cemetery, Brookfield, VT.[11]
He, of Brookfield, married fourthly, 23 Oct 1862, Mary A. Latham, of Northfield, daughter of James and Polly (Robinson) Latham.[12] She was born 1832, Northfield, VT, and died before 1870.
He married fifthly, between 1862 and 1870, Margaret E. Gilchrist, daughter of James and Abbie G. (Bean) Gilchrist. She was born 10 or 12 Jun 1843, Belfast, ME,[13] and died 10 Oct 1893, Belfast, ME[14]. She was buried in Grove Cemetery, Belfast, ME.[15] She married secondly, 31 Jul 1882, Boston or Chelsea, MA, Charles H. Hubbard.[16]
They lived in Boston and Milford, MA, Brookfield, VT, and Chelsea, MA.

William M. and Malvina F. S. (Arnold) Whitney had no known children.
William M. and Mary A. (Latham) Whitney had no known children.
William M. and Margaret E. (Gilchrist) Whitney had no known children.
Notes
The death of Abigail R. Whitney on 21 Nov 1846 is just less than a year before the recorded birth of child Orraett, above. It seems very likely that there was an error in the birth year of the child, and that Abigail R. was the wife and mother in this family group, who died from the after-effects of childbirth.
