David Cathcart8 Whitney (David7, Amos6, Jonathan5, Samuel4, John3, Benjamin2, John1), son of David7 and Mercy (Reed) Whitney, was born 23 Feb 1842, Lincoln, ME, and died 8 Dec 1934, Sabula, Jackson Co., IA.

He married 23 or 25 Sep 1866, Lincoln, ME, Evelyn L. Mills, "both of Lincoln".[1] She was born 16 Nov 1843, ME, and died 7 Feb 1918, Sabula, IA.

David was a Civil War veteran, and he received a pension from the U.S. government.

David and Evelyn are both buried in the Evergreen Cemetery in Sabula, IA.

i. Lizzie Mercy9 Whitney, b. 12 Jun 1867, Lincoln, ME, d. 28 May 1924, Sabula, IA; m. 2 Sep 1885, James Ezra Densmore.

Obituary: From the Sabula Gazette, 28 May 1924:

Lizzy Mercy Whitney was born 12 June 1867 at Lincoln Maine. She came to Sabula with her parents on 19 March 1869. On 2 September 1885, she married James Ezra Densmore. They had 8 children, 5 survived. She died 28 May 1924, burial at Evergreen Cemetery, Sabula. Surviving children are John Milton, Ezra James, George Earl, Levina May Morgan, and Susan Evelyn Coolidge.

iii. Maud E. Whitney, b. 13 Sep 1871, Sabula, IA.
iv. Minnie A. Whitney, b. 22 Mar 1874, Sabula, IA.
v. Myra M. Whitney, b. 28 Apr 1876, Sabula, IA; m. N. O. Povin.

Obituary from the Sabula Gazette:

Miss Myra M. Whitney was born in Sabula Iowa, 28 Mar (sic) 1876 and married to N. O. Provin, 9 Jan 1894 and died 21 April 1894 at the age of 17 years, 11 months and 24 days. Pastor J. F. Hestwood, of the M.E. Church officiated Sunday. She was buried by the P.O.D of A. of which she was a member, with their very appropriate service.

vi. George P. Whitney, b. 7 Dec 1877, Sabula, IA; m. Maude Swift; had a son, George P. Whitney, Jr., b. 16 May 1925 in Sabula, IA, and d. 21 May 1925 in Sabula, IA. Both he and his father are buried in the Evergreen Cemetery in Sabula, IA.
vii. David G. Whitney, b. 19 Jun 1880, Sabula, IA.
viii. Walter W. Whitney, b. 24 Oct 1882, Sabula, IA; m. ca. 1904, Myrtle E. Tibbets; they had six known children, all b. in Iowa: William W., Thelma M., Anna E., Lilly E., Elsie Lou, and David T. Whitney.
ix. Joseph Simons Whitney, b. 9 Jan 1885, Sabula, IA; d. 25 Dec 1952, Sabula, IA. He is buried in the Evergreen Cemetery in Sabula, IA.
